Our Athens Greece City Tour Travel video features top Athens tourist sights including: Acropolis of Athens, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Parthenon, Ancient Agora and the Temple of Olympian Zeus.

In Oct 2014 we visited Athens for the TBEX travel conference (see the video here http://youtu.be/j_9ENCNBWY8). After the conference, we had a few days to explore the city which gave us ample opportunities to explore Greek culture, Greek food, Greek music and the archaeological sights of Athens.

Changing of the Guard

I have been to Athens before, so I had some idea of what to expect. I didn’t expect the vibrant nightlife and hospitality which I encountered.

This was the first time that I managed to catch the changing of the guard in front of the Parliament building. The slow motion, carefully choreographed march is truly a strange, beguiling sight.

Athens Street Art

If you are in any way a fan of street / urban art, then you won’t be disappointed in Athens. The street art scene is of a high standard and can be seen throughout the city. The example above is one of my favourite examples, which I spotted near the central market.

One of the stranger sights that I happened upon randomly was the Pittaki which has been inventively lit with regular home style lamp shades. Unusual, intriguing and utterly charming.

Plaka Market

I love markets. The Athens Plaka market bursts with energy and a wide variety of products. I found the shop keepers to be friendly and respectful. No pushy, rude behaviour here.

We of course Athens is the place to be for archaeology. It’s everywhere so you don’t have to look very hard to find it. We visited the regular Athens highlights including the Acropolis of Athens, Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Parthenon, Ancient Agora, Temple of Olympian Zeus and the Panathenaic Stadium. For anyone with even a passing interest in sports or the Olympics, I would highly recommend the impressive Panathenaic Stadium. Not only is the stadium imposing and impressive, but visitors also get the opportunity to go through the athletes entrance. An additional, unexpected highlight was the views from the top of the stadium which were incredible.
